Individual arrival in Venice. Bus transfer from Venice to Friuli Venezia Giulia, stopping along the way for a visit of small prosciutto factory in San Daniele del Friuli. After a short stroll in Venzone, little medieval village at the bottom of the mountains, we arrive in Carnia, small hamlet at the beginning of the bike path.
Dinner and overnight in Carnia.
The route begins with a scenic ride along Alpe Adria bike path, built over the trail of an old railway. It crosses a mountainous region and stays at the bottom of a valley. The ride includes a detour to Malborghetto, hamlet that preserves the ancient local architecture. The itinerary ends in Tarvisio, border town that faces Slovenia.
Overnight in Tarvisio.
The itinerary enters Slovenia after a few miles. The itinerary is surrounded by a really green natural landscape. We reach the scenic Vintgar gorge, an impressive canyon carved by Radovna river, that flows impetuously, and from here today’s destination is only a few miles away: the splendid Lake Bled.
Overnight in Bled – Ribno.
Today’s ride is short as there is so much to see and experience around lake Bled area. After a few miles, we reach Bled castle, that the lies on top of a hill. Its visit is a highlight of the trip, mainly because of the great view from up there. The itinerary then reaches the town of Radovljca, for a typical gingerbread cookie decorating experience and a honey tasting in a small farm of beekeepers. The way back to the Hotel follows a gravel road by the course of a river.
Overnight in Bled – Ribno.
The itinerary starts with a tour on a traditional boat towards Bled Island, overlooked by the iconic church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Then, after a train transfer to Kanal, the itinerary follows the bike path flanked by the river Isonzo (Soca), passes by the border town of Gorizia and finally enters the Collio, a famous wine region in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Overnight in Capriva del Friuli.
The itinerary explores the area of Collio, made of rolling hills covered with neat files of vines and small castles on the hilltops. Visit of a winery and tasting of the local wines. After the tasting, the itinerary follows b-roads until it gets to Cividale del Friuli, traditional village beautifully crossed by a river and famous for being the first capital of the Lombard duchy in Italy.
Overnight in Capriva del Friuli.
Today’s ride marks a passage from a mountainous and hilly environment to large plains rich of water. The itinerary passes by the star-shaped town of Palmanova and the small hamlet of Strassoldo, and gets to Aquileia, one of the most important towns during the Roman time: the visit of the ancient Roman ruins and the Basilica, rich of mosaics, is included. The itinerary finally crosses the lagoon of Grado and gets to the sea.
Overnight in Grado.
The last day’s ride mostly runs along the coastline that faces the Gulf of Trieste, on dedicated bike paths. It crosses an area rich of water, where it is possible to see many birds and wild animals. The bike ride ends in Monfalcone, a city famous for its shipyards. There, a ferry (or train) transfer that flanks the rocky coastline, leads to Trieste, an underrated destination full of history and elegant buildings.
Overnight in Trieste.
Guided tour of the city centre, final dinner and overnight in Trieste.
After breakfast, transfer from Trieste to Venice Airport.
End of services.
