Can I drink wine while cycling?
These guidelines are intended as a reference for cycling and wine tasting safely, in compliance with Italian law. However, they are purely indicative, as various individual factors — such as health condition, temperature or level of fatigue — may affect alcohol tolerance.
Legal Limits in Italy
The Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) limit permitted by Italian law is 0.5 g/L of blood, as provided for by Article 186 of the Italian Highway Code.
For newly licensed drivers, during the first three years after obtaining their driving license, and for drivers under the age of 21, the BAC limit is 0.0 g/L.
Bicycles are vehicles, and cyclists are therefore required to comply with the rules of the Highway Code. They may be subject to checks and, in the event of an accident, BAC testing is routinely carried out by the competent authorities.
Factors Affecting BAC
Practical Tips
- Body weight: the heavier the person, the more alcohol is diluted
- Sex: women metabolize alcohol more slowly than men
- Drinking pace: slower consumption reduces BAC peaks
- Food in the stomach: significantly slows alcohol absorption
| Body Weight | Male (max glasses) | Female (max glasses) |
| 60 kg | ~4 | ~3 |
| 75 kg | ~5 | ~4 |
| 90 kg | ~6 | ~5 |
- Eat food during the tasting
- Drink plenty of water between wines
- Allow a rest break before getting back on the bike

Do I have to be an experienced cyclist to participate in a tour?
Absolutely not. We offer solutions for everyone: you can pedal independently at your own pace, or choose a guided tour with expert guides. Our itineraries are designed for a slow journey, enjoying the landscapes and culinary traditions of the area without rushing. Furthermore, most of our tours use e-bikes (pedal-assisted bicycles), which make even the climbs accessible to those who don’t ride regularly.
If you’re new to e-biking, we’ll teach you how to use it before you set off.
💡 Tip: The ‘Historical Verona by Bike’ tour (7 km of flat terrain) is perfect for an easy ride.
💡 Tip: If this is your first experience, if your group is large, or if you have special needs, choose to be accompanied by an expert guide.
