The itinerary explores the area of Custoza, a hilly area pretty much untouched by the tourists on the lake’s shores. The route follows side roads surrounded by fields and orchards and then enters the Custoza area, covered with vineyards where white wine is produced. After a few up-and-downs on panoramic hills, the ride gets to Borghetto sul Mincio, a real-life fairytale village. Finally, the way back to Peschiera del Garda follows a bike path along Mincio river. Overnight in Peschiera.
The first part of the ride crosses the Lugana area, made of rolling hills where long files of vineyards and olive groves beautifully grow. The itinerary passes by the medieval village of Pozzolengo and the monumental tower of San Martino della Battaglia, symbol of the Italian independence wars. The ride then reaches the town of Sirmione: expect tourist crowds here, but Sirmione’s fame is well-deserved. The way back to Peschiera del Garda is along side roads in the Lugana area. Overnight in Peschiera del Garda.
After the first miles in the hilly inland, the itinerary follows the beautiful coastline between the charming towns of Lazise and Bardolino. After Bardolino, the route goes back inland with a few challenging hills: every effort will be rewarded by great views over the lake. After an exciting downhill section, the ride gets back by the lake’s shore by Torri del Benaco. By the coastline, the first miles are on regular road, then it is again on a bike path all the way to the Malcesine, overlooked by a castle. In Malcesine, short ferry transfer to Torbole, today’s destination. Overnight in Torbole.
Torbole and Riva del Garda are located in a beautiful position in the Northern corner of Lake Garda among green mountains and by Sarca river, the main tributary of Lake Garda. Today you’ll ride by its waters and discover a green plain with crystal water lakes.
Second overnight in Torbole.
After a ferry transfer from Torbole to Salò, a charming town on the Western side of the lake, you will ride up on the hills of Valtenesi, a wine region also famous for excellent olive oil production. This short itinerary crosses the entire region, dotted with many tiny villages and farms, until it gets to Desenzano del Garda, the major town in the South of Lake Garda.
Overnight in Desenzano.
Today’s ride goes off the beaten tracks and visits region made of rolling hills and authentic medieval villages, in an environment that recalls Tuscany’s landscapes. The itinerary heads South following some “strade bianche” (country roads) and reaches the villages of Solferino, Cavriana and Castellaro Lagusello. Overnight in Desenzano.
Breakfast, check out and individual departure from Desenzano.
Arrivederci!
